Ottoman Transcription Keyboard

This is a keyboard layout package I designed specifically for transcribing Ottoman Turkish. It contains dedicated key combinations for a number of characters not frequently found in Latin diacritical keyboard layouts and is compatible with both Mac and Windows.

A Few Thoughts on İbrahim Metin Kunt’s “Derviş Mehmed Paşa, Vezir and Entrepreneur" and the (Mis)interpretation of Cāh/Jāh

A few informal and decidedly in the weeds thoughts on İbrahim Metin Kunt’s 1977 Turcica article, “Derviş Mehmed Paşa, Vezir and Entrepreneur: A Study in Ottoman Political-Economic Theory and Practice,” and what appears to me to be a misreading at the heart of the article when Kunt attempts to explain how early modern and pre-modern authors conceptualized cāh, which he translates as (political) 'rank'. I argue cāh is likely a much more capacious concept for early modern Ottoman and Islamicate authors.
